The writing was so-so. At times it flowed nicely, but other sections were a tad heavy-handed and the dialogue mushy. The water/fish terminology was fun, but too much. The mermaid aspect was fun and entertaining and even unique enough to hold my attention. The book makes a thoroughly suitable summer beach read: fluffy, light-hearted and apart from a few moments, entirely frivolous. Will not require heavy thinking, which was good coming off of Mockingjay.

The only things that actually bothered me was that the writing is nearly MG level, but the situation and interactions were YA, and that Lily spends so much time fantasizing over a boy who she does not know, has never taken the time to know and ignores the boy who clearly is interested in her. Verrrrry frustrating. And she does come off as shallow and self-involved a lot. And there was quite a bit of innuendo. There is also the ominous ending which leads into the sequel out next year, Fins Are Forever, which I may or may not read. It is troublesome to always have to go and read the sequel...
