The Awakening - Kelley Armstrong 3.5 stars

Unlike so many series and trilogies, this middle book is much better than the first. It has better pacing, more information and more substantial character development. I worry though that there will simply not be enough time and space in The Reckoningto properly wrap up all the questions concerning the Edison Group, the experiments and genetic mutations, the demon, the Cabals, etc.

"Not yet. Your powers need time to mature. And then?" Her laugh filled the room. "Dear Dr. Lyle must be dancing in Hell today, his agonies borne away on the thrill of his triumph. Dearly departed, scarcely lamented, deeply demented Dr. Samuel Lyle. Creator of the prettiest, sweetest abomination I have seen."

Ominous, much?

I am rooting for Chloe and Derek here. Not only because Simon has the personality of a rock, but because Chloe and Derek compliment each other so well and are good for each other. And no one is convincing me otherwise.
