The Necromancer (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel) - Michael Scott Four of six done and they are getting better the more we get to know these characters and this complex cast, with all their twisty machinations and manipulations. Everybody has an angle and right now whose side would be the good side is utterly unclear. *crazy happiness*

Major spoilage.

So, Josh is done with the Flamels and is angry that Sophie is still siding with them. They meet up with Niten and Aoife, Scathach's twin sister. Go to visit the Witch's brother, Prometheus, to get him to teach Josh Fire, which he agrees to do with great reluctance. We get some very interesting history on the Witch and her brother. Meanwhile, Machiavelli and Billy the Kid are supposed to go unleash the creatures on Alcatraz on California, but Machiavelli is having some doubts about what is the right cause for him to be supporting. John Dee teams up with Virginia Dare to get his revenge on the Elders that have sentenced him to death for his failure. He tried to use Josh to release the Mother of the Gods from her prison and set her on the Elders, planning to seal off all the other shadow realms, keeping Earth for himself. The Flamels, Sophie, Niten and Aoife foil his plan, at the cost of Aoife's life, but Dee and Dare escape to another Shadow Realm, and Josh abandons Sophie to go with them. Joan and Scathach were stranded in time, but Germaine, Shakespeare, and Paladin come to rescue them, only to realize that are part of a plan created by the mysterious Marethyu. They have to go back in time to Danu Talis.

"You don't have to stay on that side. Often the greatest act of courage is admitting you made a mistake." "Follow your hearts. Protect one another, trust one another, because, at the end of the day, all of these people want something from you, or want you to do something for them, or be something that you are not. Your responsibility is to one another." ~ Niten to Sophie and Josh

Whoa, what is that skull? Why did the witch destroy everything pertaining to it? Why was Mars after Prometheus'aura? How is Mars connected to Josh? And how much of Josh leaving his sister was Mars? Can the Witch do the same thing to Sophie? I find the change in Sophie's eating and sleep extremely troubling. Marethyu is ... intriguing. Machiavelli is becoming a very layered character. So, the swords are more than weapons. What are they exactly? Aww, Aoife. Seriously, though, all of these characters and seeing all their motivations and changing paths is great.

Might this be a clue to the downfall of Danu Talis?

"Never call upon the Magic of Fire when you are angry. Fire is the one Magic that must be called upon only when you are calm; otherwise, it can rage out of control and consume everything - including you."

Pretty sure with all the timey-wimey stuff now in play it will be Sophie and Josh that turn out to be the original twins that sank Danu Talis. The why is still out there, but maybe it has to happen b/c it already has and that is what has created the world the way that it now is and they have to do what they already did. Still with me?

I just want to have everything turn out okay for Sophie and Josh.
