Green Angel - Alice Hoffman A story of encompassing and consuming grief for the young girl Green after her parents and beloved younger sister are killed in an unspecified disaster when they go to the city, leaving Green alone in the country in a time of lawlessness and uncertainty. Green becomes Ash, tatooing herself and inflicting pain as she tries to live without grieving the loss of her family. Time, a hawk, a hound, a mute boy and a kind elderly neighbor are all instrumental in her healing process. In time, she is again Green and ready to move forward while still holding in her heart her loved ones.

I did not care for the writing style. I was frustrated by the lack of concrete detail. When are we? Where is the story set? What actually happened? We did not see them as a family so it is hard to grieve with Green.
